Our History
After having trained directly under Maria Montessori, Dr. Margaret Potts traveled to Council Bluffs in 1968. It was while living in Council Bluffs that Dr. Potts passed on her Montessori knowledge to Dorothy Woods and Irene Dawson. With the help of Dr. Potts, Irene and Dorothy started Montessori Children's House.
In 2006, operation of the Montessori Children's House was assumed by Heather Davis. While ownership of the school has changed, teachers at the preschool are still trained by Dorothy Woods. This is a rare experience which gives the school a uniqueness and purity rarely found in Montessori programs today. We feel privileged to have the opportunity to provide children with the materials and experience that will create a lifelong love for learning.
"There can be no great superstructure built on a poor foundation."
-Maria Montessori
